There’s a particular kind of joy that comes from hearing a client say the final product exceeded what they had pictured in their heads. That’s exactly what happened after our recent shoot at the Copper Crest Lodge, and it’s the kind of feedback that reminds our whole team why we love this work. We wanted to take a moment to unpack what went into this shoot, how the drone footage turned out the way it did, and what this kind of feedback means to us.

Not every property lends itself to dramatic photography and video, but Copper Crest Lodge is the image of rustic perfection. Tucked into a wooded, elevated setting at Innsbrook Resort, it had everything a visual storyteller could ask for: striking roof line, modern decor, a sauna, and enough clearance around the property to really let the drone work its magic. When a location has this kind of natural character, our job becomes less about creating drama out of nothing and more about knowing where to look and when to press record.

Before the shoot even started, the team walked the property to scout angles, check the light, and figure out where the cabin’s best features could shine. That prep work matters just as much as the shoot itself. Planning day and night shoots to show every inch of the lodge’s features, shooting for social media and professional advertisements, as well as which vantage points would showcase the cabin’s scale all shaped the plan for the day.

Ground-level photography can only tell part of a property’s story. A wide-angle lens can capture a room, a porch, or a facade, but it can’t capture the way a cabin sits within its landscape, how it relates to the terrain around it, or the feeling of sitting on the outer deck and watching river leisurely slink along. That’s where aerial footage changes everything.

For this shoot, the drone gave us the ability to show the cabin from angles a client would never normally get to see on their own property: sweeping establishing shots that reveal the full roof line and surrounding tree canopy and and top-down shots that show just how private and secluded the setting really is, as well as demonstrating the aquatic activities one can partake in. These aren’t just “nice to have” shots. For a cabin property especially, the surrounding land is half the appeal, and aerial footage is often the only way to do that land justice.

Flying a drone requires more than just equipment. Wind conditions, tree clearance, and timing all have to line up, and the operator needs a strong sense of composition to make each pass feel intentional rather than random. When a client says the footage “turned out better than we imagined,” that’s usually a sign the operator found angles the client didn’t even know were possible. That’s the real value of bringing in a professional for this kind of work instead of relying on a phone camera or a single static shot.

One phrase in the review stood out to us: the client thanked the team for capturing every aspect of the cabin. That’s a meaningful thing to hear, because it means the shoot did more than just check boxes. It’s easy to grab a few pretty exterior shots and call it day; a thorough shoot means covering the full story of a property along with the spaces visitors will enjoy most. Even small details, like a stone fireplace or a well-worn wooden beam, make a property feel lived-in and loved, inviting people to enjoy the quiet charm of Copper Crest Lodge.
